another project

Being home in Colorado for 6 days at Thanksgiving with everyone else meant we got a lot of shopping in. For some reason the shopping in Colorado is just so much better than Utah.  There are more places you can go to and have all the stores you need instead of having to skip around to different places here.  Ann Taylor is definitely one of my favorite stores right now and we found some good deals!  We all loved this necklace, but since $65 is WAY too much to spend on a necklace like this that doesn't have real pearls,  I decided to try to make one.  So I took about 30 minutes today and... success!

I purchased the materials for less than $15- and that is enough to make more than one necklace.  (I figure I'll do one for all the girls since we all got some fun things at Ann Taylor while we were there).
I started out with my supplies:  beading wire, some pearl beads (from Michaels- they were 2 packages for $5), some 10 mm jump rings, and crimping beads to put them together. Also, some black tulle and black ribbon.

Here are the beads I purchased.

The lighting in my apartment is horrible, so sorry for the bad pictures!
the jump ring with the crimp bead to start.
I cut the strips of tulle in about 2 inch strips. It was hard to tie any smaller ones.  Since the tulle Ann Taylor used was a lot thicker/heavier fabric (and I couldn't find any like that), I used 3-4 strips tied between each bead.  Here is my progress:

Then, you add the other jump ring and put ribbon through each end to tie it around your neck. Here is the final version (with shadows in the picture, unfortunately).

It's not the same as the $65 one, but I still think it turned out fairly well.  :)
