Freedom

This poem was sent to me by a dear friend and she gave me permission to pass it along.

Freedom

The flame burned bright in the darkened night,
to the joy of all gathered by.
Along came some seeking evil done
and beat till the flame near died.

Only embers glow to light those souls
and worried they'd lose their way,
They searched in the dark for just a spark,
and many began to pray.

The breath of desire ignited the fire;
rekindled the flame more bright!
Awakened faith kept them safe
in the darkness of the night.

The flame roared high in the blackened sky
illuminating truth again.
With God at their side the despot died
and their freedom began to mend.

Sleep if you will when light falls still
Or wake to freedom's call
But vigilance must be, to truly be free;
The unalienable right of all.
