the fruits of your labors

Ok. maybe not that much labor. Luckily, the community garden gets watered on a schedule and we don't have to go and do it, which is the only reason our garden has survived.
Here's the tale
we began starters indoors when we decided to do the community garden. I blogged about it here.  Then we planted it all in the garden and I never took a picture because when I went back a day later, it looked dead. So Jake and I basically gave up. We went back a few times to water it but realized it was pretty much hopeless.
Until... about 3 weeks ago. Our friends from church that we are sharing our plot with mentioned to Jake at church how good the garden looked. We were shocked and decided to go check it out. We did, and although it didn't look as good as she described, some things were growing and it needed weeding bad. So we weeded. And we went back to check on it later on in the week.
We didn't have time to go check on it before we left for our vacation a week and half ago and I figured it would be dead again since I got an email saying the water stopped working so we had to go water it by hand.  We were busy getting ready for vacation and I never did go and water it.
Lettuce
Last night we stopped by just to see how dead it was. And much to our surprise we found some big plants. Here's some pics that I took on my phone.

Basil
Zucchini

About 5 years of growing basil and I've NEVER had mine look that good. Sometimes plants thrive off a little neglect, which is such a blessing with busy lives.

Wow, talk about a green thumb! Those look great! We could use some of your "expertise" over here :)
