life's minor dilemas

Life has been busy lately and I haven't posted on here much. Mainly because I ran into the snafu that it seems half my blogger friends recently came to: I've met my storage limit for photos and can't upload more until I pay for more storage.

I'm trying to decide if I should just move to wordpress and get a custom url or pay the fee here or just stop with a personal blog and post more on the blog I have with my sisters- sisterview.com.

I'm leaning toward my own url but lack the creativity to think of anything good. Do I just go with perschons.com?  Any ideas on urls from those who may still read this blog??

Birds and the bees quilt top

Not long ago I purchased a Tula Pink Birds and the Bees charm pack because I wanted a quick and easy project to finish. I decided to do half square triangles and make a chevron quilt. It was a fun, quick project.

Now I'm trying to decide I should add borders to make it larger or not. We will see...

I love this fabric collection and was able to pull a few other prints from my stash to make my rows complete.  The colors are so fun and the prints are great.
I'm entering this into the Tula Pink sew along contest here.  And P.S., I really want to make this quilt and I love the dress someone made from the pattern too.

fall

I've been in love with the amazing fall colors this year. For some reason, it seems like there are more oranges and reds (my favorites) and not just yellows and browns.

It is so pretty and it makes me grateful that God created a world full of color. Color makes me happy.

I'm enjoying the fall weather so far, although I wish I could just lay in bed and read my book instead of go to work most of the time... I'm loving fall more this year, but I would love it much more if winter didn't follow it.

measured out

Her life is being measured away, cupful by cupful.  -The Hours by Michael Cunningham

This is exactly how I feel about my life- it's being measured away week by week.  A week passes and I still can't tell you what I did.  But I'm trying to remember the small moments...

Like last night when we were watching Leverage and I started crying in the episode when Hardison was buried alive- and then kept crying for no reason.

Yeah- moments like that remind me I'm still alive- even though I can't always tell you why I'm feeling the way I am.

currently

We are loving watching Leverage.  I recently got several seasons on dvd from our library so we've been watching episodes every evening.  It is seriously soo funny!  My favorite character is Hardison.

This show, along with White Collar are our favorites.  We are seriously laughing out loud during so much of it.

When I'm not too tired after work, I love to sew. Although I am starting to wonder if there will ever be a time when I don't have to work or if I should just get over that wish and accept the fact that I will never have a life.

I'm so far behind in reading all of my books that it's stressing me out.

I don't want another week of work, even though I do have a great job.

Grandpa Nielsen

Grandpa Nielsen passed away on Sunday, October 7th. We received the call less than an hour after turning off the tv when General Conference ended.  Jake's Grandpa Nielsen was 74 years old.

The funeral is now over. We miss him dearly already and will miss so much more as time goes on. He is such a wonderful man and we are so grateful for eternal families.  We love you, Grandpa.

every 6 months

Today is my favorite event that occurs every 6 months.

General Conference for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  I am so excited to listen to a prophet's voice and to feel the Spirit of God that I know will be felt in abundance.  Each time I listen, I am reminded once again of God's overwhelming love for all of His children, the infinite sacrifice and atonement of my Savior, Jesus Christ and it makes me want to become a better person.

I am so excited to listen to these men who are living prophets and apostles and to hear the word of truth from other speakers as well.

So, this weekend I'll be listening with hope, gratitude, and a prayerful heart that I can know what one thing I can work on to become a better person. It's a spiritual feast and I'm ready for it.

Field Study

Like one of my sisters posted here, we split a fat quarter bundle of Field Study and promised each other that we would figure out our plan and cut into it by tonight.

I found this quilt that I really liked.

and, once I found the tutorial for the block (which required less thinking from me) I decided to give it a try.  Here's my first small block. I'm too tired to do any more, but I did start cutting into the fabric so I have something cut to go back to.

Just ignore my shadow- I don't have much light this time of day. I decided to do a light gray instead of kona bone, although I may regret that later.

remember when

...I used to blog?  Well, I really have no excuse. But I also know that there is no one out there constantly checking and waiting for me to post. Life has been sailing by, as it does for all of us.  I'm loving my job and enjoying the people that I work with. Our ward is wonderful and Jake and I are staying busy with our new callings: (1st Counselor in RS and EQ President).  I'm still constantly trying to fit in reading, sewing and my other hobbies while spending time occasionally with my Mr. Wonderful.

Life is good, although some days it's hard. I know that God answers prayers and that life goes on, whether we are enjoying it or not.

I started a book club with my sisters and sisters-in-law and I'm excited for that. I'm also trying to start one with people in my area.

Seed is in the back yard so hopefully next spring we will have grass.

Listening to Elder Holland makes me happy.

Exercise is good. I enjoy it when I do it and miss it when I'm too lazy.

This is the time of year when I want to make my garden bigger next year.  The problem is, I usually don't feel that way when I'm planting it.

I love being with family. And holding babies. The end.

onion harvest

Tonight I finished washing all of the remaining onions from my garden.  After taking a bag to some family over the weekend and picking onions all summer from the garden, it was time to pull the rest out.
this was our first time planting onions and we ended planting them too close together so they only grew to a certain point before they got too squished. :)
Aren't they pretty?  They are waiting on my counter for me to cut them up and freeze them- I just need to make sure my eyes can handle it.

succulents

I am not a plant person.  In fact, I'm surprised our garden has survived as it has.  But, this summer I bought some succulent plants to plant inside. The best thing about them is that you don't have to be a good waterer.

When we were in California this summer, we visited Sherman Gardens. My favorite part was the succulents growing underneath the stairs. I think it would be so cool to do that some day.  just like all the cool vertical garden pictures that I've seen. (Like this one:)

Succulents are my new love.

when he's gone

This is what my bed looks like when the husband is gone- pillows on every side.

The pillows may be softer, but I much prefer having his arm around me. One week of being gone is enough for me, I admire those who do it for longer lengths of time.

fabric wish list

I'm dirt poor right now, but I still love cute things. Since I am trying to do a better job of budgeting and saving. I decided to make a list for myself of the fabric I want (at least for now). And, since it's pretty- pictures on the blog are fun. (links to the entire line in case you are a fabric collector like me)

Bella by Lotta Jansdotter- can't wait for it to come out and I might just have it on pre-order :)

simpatico

Patty Young lush running stitch. I want this in all the colors.

or maybe some Anna Maria Horner Field Study instead.

I really like the Madrona Road line too.

I've always wanted some of this fabric.
And of course, who wouldn't want some liberty of london

And of course, you can never have enough polka dots.

Do I actually use all of the fabric I have? No. Eventually, maybe. For now, I'm just a fabric collector until I can get my act in gear and accomplish more things. It's fun to dream though :)
