pet peeve Thursday.

Don't worry, I'm not going to start doing this every week :)  I just have to get off my chest 2 things that bug me.

1. sale vs. sell
I know that we all make spelling mistakes (I am as guilty as the next person), but I am starting to think that people don't know the difference between the two words. I often come across it in my work- comments from customers who "sale t-shirts".  Most of the time the word sale is used in place of sell instead of vice versa. I blame it on our lack of knowledge of the English language in a technology driven world. Seriously people. Get off Facebook and learn something. Please tell me if (heaven forbid) you ever catch me using the wrong word.
2. Dr.
I'm sorry but I don't feel the need to call a dentist from 10 states away that I do not visit as Dr. I understand you went through the schooling, same with other people out there who have Phd's for other things, but are you really so pretentious that you expect everyone you meet or talk with to call you Dr? no thanks.  It drives me crazy.

 now I've said it.

I love these both! These things would drive me crazy too- luckily I don't run into either of these too often. :)

When Chris is finished with his PhD, you can call him Doctor. I plan to. After that long, he's earned it! But hopefully in general conversations he'll still just be Chris to most people. But I don't think there's anything wrong with owning the title you've earned. (A guy in our ward just finished his PhD. His daughter refers to him as Dr. Daddy, and I love it!)

I agree with spelling mistakes. I sometimes do them but they can drive me crazy. Example: In your post below Pom pom is really pom pon. It has been used wrong for so long that the spelling pom pom is actually accepted today.

I am right there with you on both of those!!! When I was a freshman at Utah State, I woke up one morning to: "For Sell 435-xxx-xxxx" written on the back window of my car. I was so irritated! Number one that someone did that to my car, and number two that I had to drive around town with a dumb spelling error on my car until I could get to a car wash!!!

PS - this post was kinda funny - i hope it does become a weekly special :)
